School Background

Good Shepherd Convent was established 140 years ago on Colombo’s highest point, like a light set on a towering hill.

It was the Benedictine Italian Archbishop of Colombo, Rt. Rev. Sillani, who initiated the first Catholic Convent, yet it drew upon the efforts of a French Saint Mother Euphrasia to plant the seed which has now become a mighty tree through whose portals thousands of girls have passed through.

	Facilities
Montessori - for boys and girls from the age of 2 ½ to 5 Primary Section -Grade 1 to Grade 5, where the medium of instruction is Sinhala & Tamil. English is given special attention. Middle School ; - From Grade 6 - Grade 11 the school have all the 3 mediums (Sinhala, Tamil & English) according to the Government Educational Curriculum

	G.C.E. Advance Level Classes have all the three mediums (Sinhala, Tamil & English) in Science Stream ( Bio & Maths), Commerce Stream. Arts Stream classes are conduct in Sinhala & Tamil mediums. Spacious Classrooms, two Libraries, well equipped Science Laboratories, Computer Laboratories and two Halls. The main School Hall has been refurbished recently.
Training of the English Choir, the Eastern and Western Bands, and the Sinhala and Tamil Dance Troupes. A magnificient Chapel and a beautiful Grotto Sports facilities include Basketball and Netball Courts, Gymnasium and a Sports room. Athletics, Gymnastics, Netball, Basketball, Badminton, Chess, Table-Tennis, Karate and Swimming are some of the Sports encouraged by the School.

School Management

The School Management is headed by the Principal of the School who is a Reverend Sister of the Good Shepherd Order. The Vice Principal of the Upper School and the Head Mistress of the Primary School assist the Principal in the Management of the School

The Principal of the School is assisted by the School Development Society and the Past Pupils Association in all her efforts in uplifting the Standard of the school.Rev. Sr. Renuka Silva was appointed as the Principal from Jan 2011.

Academic Staff

The Academic Staff consists of 43 teachers in the Primary Department, 120 teachers in the Upper School. They are all qualified to conduct classes in the three mediums of instruction – English, Sinhala & Tamil.

The Academic staff comprising of dedicated Teachers, many of whom are past students of this great institution, support the Principal in maintaining excellence in education whilst at the same time maintaining high standards of discipline.
